PAL gets a handful of VC games this week; no WiiWare

Published by Christian

It seems that they may be alternating between Virtual Console and WiiWare releases each week on PAL systems. Last week was no VC and all WiiWare. This week? No WiiWare…but a whopping five games from yesteryear.

  • Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Sega Master System, 500 Wii Points)
  • Last Ninja 2: Back with a Vengeance (Commodore 64, 500 Wii Points)
  • Nebulus (Commodore 64, 500 Wii Points)
  • Fatal Fury 2 (Neo Geo, 900 Wii Points)
  • Ninja Combat (Neo Geo, 900 Wii Points)

Phew. They’re all pretty good titles, so there’s lots to pick from this week. Well, for you PAL Wii owners, not for me.

Two new games for the NES…and the VC!

Published by Christian

Heh, whoops. Little behind on this one, but we’ll refrain from pointing fingers at a certain Nintendo. Two new additions this week for the Virtual Console in the North America, including the always classic Dig Dug. Both titles are a little more expensive than you’d expect, mostly because they’re actually Famicom titles that weren’t released on the NES outside of Japan! Hope for Mother and Fire Emblem, anyone?

  • Dig Dug (NES, 600 Wii Points)
  • Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa (NES, 600 Wii Points)

You can read more about these games after the break.

No bad VC games on PAL this week

Published by Christian

In a bittersweet relief, there aren’t any bad new additions to the PAL Virtual Console this week. Why? Because there aren’t any additions at all.

Oh well!

More Ninjas fight their way onto the Virtual Console

Published by Christian

080603ninjas.jpg

There’s a single new Virtual Console game available to North Americas this week, and it comes in the form of a “me too” beat ‘em up title. That game is…

  • Ninja Combat (NeoGeo, 900 Wii Points)

The additional fact that there is a severely limited selection of new VC games is starting to seem like it’s going to become the norm, now that we have WiiWare. Those who expected three to four games a week and Majora’s Mask to seemingly due anytime now must face the sad reality: it’s gonna be a while.

Pokemon Puzzle League now on PAL Virtual Console

Published by Christian

080530pikapuzzle.jpg

I didn’t realize that so many people had an unhealthy love for Pokemon Puzzle League until I got to college. I’m not terrifically big on the game myself, I tend to use it more as a reason why PT could have been named “Ash” in a certain Nintendo fighter. Oh well. Three new games for PAL gamers on the Virtual Console today:

  • Pokemon Puzzle League (N64, 1000 Wii Points)
  • Burning Fight (Neo Geo, 900 Wii Points)
  • Samurai Showdown (Neo Geo, 900 Wii Points)

These weeks just keep getting more and more expensive…

The wait is almost over; Super Mario RPG is in the wings

Published by Pete

There is light at the end of the Virtual Console tunnel for many classic RPG fans. No, Earthbound is still nowhere in sight, but Super Mario RPG has been confirmed for release in Japan in June. Once it’s out in one region, it’s only a matter of time until the other regions get it. Sort of like a horrible airborne virus a la Outbreak, only much more fun.

Virtual Console gets slugged with two classics

Published by Pete

The VC doesn’t seem to be getting as much attention since the launch of WiiWare, and I think it’s about time for Nintendo to drop some big titles on at least one of the services. Instead, this week adds:

  • City Connection (NES, 500 Wii Points)
  • Metal Slug (NEOGEO, 900 Wii Points)

While not bad games by any means, there just hasn’t been a stellar, must have game released for awhile. I guess for now I’ll just keep sending telepathic Earthbound messages to Reggie. Official descriptions from Nintendo after the break.

Paradroid arrives on PAL Virtual Console

Published by Christian

080522palvc.jpg

There’s a single game for the PAL Virtual Console this week, and I’ve never played it before. Luckily, I’ve heard nothing but good things about this game, so if you’re still looking for something to play this week, you might want to try this one out.

  • Paradroid (Commodore 64, 500 Wii Points)

Sky Kid flying solo on the Virtual Console

Published by Christian

080519skykid.jpg

Looks like these WiiWare updates might be used as an excuse to give us even less VC games each week. Namco’s Sky Kid is the single Virtual Console game added to the buffet this week, and luckily it’s an okay game for an okay price. Of course, you probably have about $90 already spoken for this week, so this may be lower on the priority ladder.

  • Sky Kid (NES, 500 Wii Points)

Hanabi Festival draws to a close on PAL Virtual Console

Published by Christian

080516starparodier.jpg

Three new import games are now downloadable for European and Australian Wii owners, and it looks like this will close out the Hanabi Festival for this month. We’ll have to wait patiently for Fire Emblem…

  • Gley Lancer (Mega Drive, 900 Wii Points)
  • Digital Champ: Battle Boxing (PC Engine, 700 Points)
  • Star Parodier (PC Engine, 900 Wii Points)
