Fantasy Zone and Mega Turrican arrive on Virtual Console

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

080414turricanoz.jpg

North Americans get two new games to choose from on the Virtual Console today. Those games are:

  • Fantasy  Zone (Sega Master System, 500 Wii Points)
  • Mega Turrican (Sega Genesis, 800 Wii Points)

I’m curious though… not that we’ve gotten any horrible, “why-would-you-torture-us-this-way” games on the VC lately, but we haven’t gotten any heavy hitters in quite some time. When was the last time you downloaded a new Virtual Console game?

You can check out the press release and official descriptions for Fantasy Zone and Mega Turrican after the break.

Four (or two) games for the PAL Virtual Console today

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

080411palvc2.jpgEuropean Wii owners will be delighted to know that they’ll be able to download four new games for the Virtual Console. What might not be as appealing is the fact that none of them are probably among your fondest memories. That’s OK, though, as long as they’re decent and you’re getting more VC games than America, right?

  • Wonder Boy (Sega Master System, 500 Wii Points)
  • Fantasy Zone (Sega Master System, 500 Wii Points)
  • Impossible Mission (Commodore 64, 500 Wii Points)
  • California Games (Commodore 64, 500 Wii Points)

Australian VC enthusiasts will be able to find those first two games for the Sega Master System in their Wii Shop Channel, but not the other two. To compensate (not really), Nintendo Australia has announced that the region’s Virtual Console now offers a total of 200 games. The Top 10 selling titles are listed after the break - and they’re all Nintendo titles save for one.

Bases Loaded, Yoshi’s Cookie hit VC

Published by Pete under Virtual Console

yoshismall.jpg

This week’s virtual console update includes two NES classics. Bases Loaded brings an old school baseball simulation to the table, although a little late to coincide with the big league’s season kicking off (we’ll forgive you, as the Tigers have yet to start actually playing). Also Yoshi’s Cookie brings its take on puzzle action.

  • Bases Loaded (NES, 500 Wii points)
  • Yoshi’s Cookie (NES, 500 Wii points)

Just one treat on the PAL Virtual Console this week

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

080404yoshiscookie.jpg

This week’s Virtual Console update for Europe and Australia is the always lovable Yoshi’s Cookie. It’s the NES version of the game, which I’ve got in cartridge form sitting in a box back home. No SNES version this time, and no other games this week.

At least this one’s a fun game that a number of us should remember… can’t say the same for some of the more recent weeks.

  • Yoshi’s Cookie (NES, 500 Wii Points)

Two new games for everyone in North America this morning, courtesy of Nintendo’s Virtual Console service. The N64 version of Cruisin’ USA races in at the always-pricey 1000 Wii Points mark. The other release is for the Sega Master System: Wonder Boy is now available for 500 Points.

  • Cruisin’ USA (Nintendo 64, 1000 Wii Points)
  • Wonder Boy (Sega Master System, 500 Wii Points)

It’s “64 Day” on the PAL Virtual Console

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

…Well, not officially. But it should be. Three games head to the Virtual Console in Europe (and Australia?) today, including two titles kicking off Commodore 64 support on the service. Also joining them is a little ol’ arcade game that was ported to the N64. “Oooh. Ahhh. Oooh. Ahhh.”

  • Uridium (Commodore 64, 500 Wii Points)
  • International Karate (Commodore 64, 500 Wii Points)
  • Cruis’n USA (Nintendo 64, 1000 Wii Points)

Grab your stone hammer: 1st Wave of Sega Master System games listed for Virtual Console

Published by Ryan under Virtual Console, Wii

wonderboyvc.jpg

Sega Master System fans rejoice! The first two games that will be available on the Wii’s Virtual console from the Sega Master System era will be: Wonder Boy and Fantasy Zone. These titles will also be priced at an affordable 400 points. I hope that Sega eventually decides to re-release the Snail Maze that all of us remember from the early Sega days.

King’s Knight and Powerball added to Virtual Console

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

What’s this? A Square-Enix game on the Virtual Console? The possibilities!

This week’s Virtual Console update for North America includes both King’s Knight from the NES and Powerball on the Sega Genesis. No, not the gambling kind of Powerball, but a then-new hybrid of both football and rugby - gotta appeal to worldwide audiences, right?

  • King’s Knight (NES, 500 Wii Points)
  • Powerball (Genesis, 800 Wii Points)

PAL Virtual Console update - March 21, 2008

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

080322eurovc.jpg

One new game graces the Virtual Console in both Europe and Australia this week, and it’s the Factor 5 game, Mega Turrican. I’ve never played it, but even if I had it, it probably would have been played on a Sega Nomad rather than the TV screen. Anyone plan on giving this one a whirl?

  • Mega Turrican (Mega Drive, 800 Wii Points)

Super R-Type and Spelunker now on Virtual Console

Published by Christian under Virtual Console

080317superrtype.jpg

I had this dream last night that Duck Hunt would be hitting the Virtual Console. In my dreams, right? Yeah…

So two new games for the Virtual Console today. No huge headliner games, but still two. It’s really starting to feel - and this may just be me - like we keep getting Super R-Type over and over. With how the VC releases have been these past weeks, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t matter if this were the case or not.

  • Spelunker (NES, 500 Wii Points)
  • Super R-Type (SNES, 800 Wii Points)

Full press release after the break.
