Boo! The scariest moments in Nintendo history

Published by Drew under Tanooki, The List

banner1.jpg

Nintendo may have spent years building a family-friendly reputation with bright colors, non-violent gameplay and clearly-evil-but-ultimately non-threatening big bads, but that doesn’t mean that the occasional title didn’t contain a genuinely frightening scene or two. In honor of the annual celebration of all things spooky, I thought I’d take a look at what Nintendo-created images gave me a fright.

Our six most anticipated holiday games that don’t start with “Super”

Published by matthew under Tanooki, The List

It’s true, Super Mario Galaxy is going to rule your life when it debuts on November 12. With the return of the fire suit and the other zany goodness that made the original games so great, Galaxy could bee a worthy successor to Super Mario 64. In fact, it might even be better!

But this list isn’t about Super Mario Galaxy. Oh no, this one is about the other games that are going to shape up your holiday season. I’m talking about the Fire Emblems, the Contras, and those NiGHTS that are preparing to make a journey into dreams. Now join us as Christian and myself take a look at six games that are going to help make this holiday season one of the best (hopefully).

Who’s Your Daddy? The top fathers of video gaming!

Published by Beeks under The List

fathersday.jpg

While you’re out buying your dad a new grill or a Home Depot gift card for Father’s Day (I’ll be getting my dad a bag of Peanut M&Ms and a Star Trek figurine), remember to show some love to your virtual fathers as well— those dads that reside deep inside your favorite video games. They have reared you from a young “tadpole” to a grown marshmallow, honed your Arwing flying skills, told tales of the old days of tossing barrels at Mario, and in some cases, you even ARE the father!

Though some of these fathers lied to you about your true identity, or even just failed to actually show up, they were still our dads—and it’s our turn to honor these fine father figures (how about that for alliteration?). So onward to the granddaddy of all lists, the top fathers in the videogame universe! Just one word of caution, many of entries contain some general plot spoilers, but if you have yet to play the games mentioned, go play them (after you take your dad out for lunch, of course).

The Tanooki’s Top 25 Pokémon Countdown Recap

Published by Christian under The List, News

070422top25.jpg

We made it! Every night last week, we presented bits and pieces of our list of favorite Pokémon of all-time. This countdown was done in celebration of the launch for Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, available now in North America for the Nintendo DS and DS Lite. All three of us (Becky, Matthew, and Christian) collaborated for the making of this list, and we feel the result was a list that accurately reflected our tastes in the 386 Pokémon from the first three generations. There may have been two or three that fans of the series were expecting on our list, but these are the ones we feel we like the most.

Of course, seven separate parts of a single, giant list can be hard to keep track of, especially when they’re each separated by about 24 hours. We’ve linked the several pages of our list past the break, for your viewing convenience and pleasure.

Over the past week, revealing more and more of our list has stirred some of the members of our forums to figure out which Pokémon would top The Tanooki’s list of favorite Pokémon. Given our history of controversial lists, however, it should be no surprise that our #1 pick isn’t the Pokémon everyone thought it would be. Which Pokémon was (by far) our favorite Pokémon?
