VGChartz data shows record-setting April for Wii

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Wii

080508vgchart.jpg

While we should be seeing the NPD Group’s sales figures for April shorty, VGChartz is already celebrating huge victories for Nintendo. For starters, the Smash Bros./Mario Kart 1-2 punch has given the Wii back-to-back 700,000+ months in the United States. Capturing 53% of the US market in April, the Wii averaged 190,000 consoles sold each week, a record for non-holiday sales.

The week ending May 3rd saw a non-holiday record 398,000 Wii consoles sold in the US, and 660,000 consoles sold worldwide. The previous record for the latter stat was the Nintendo DS selling through 569,000 units in a week. The above image was created by The Ghost of RubangB comparing a certain console’s worldwide sales during Mario Kart Wii launch in the US to a certain other two consoles’ Christmas sales.

Mario Kart Wii continues to dominate the software sales in Japan, moving another 150,000+ units in the week ending April 27. • DSL: 42,435 (-2,116)

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Nintendo DS, Wii

Hardware sales drops all around this week compared to last. The Wii and DS see the largest drops, but overall the list looks pretty much the same as it has for several weeks now. Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Wii Sports all manage to find spots in the Top 10 for Nintendo, with Hudson’s Deca Sports rounding out the five Wii games at the top of the charts.

  • PSP: 85,421 (-300)
  • DSL: 44,551 (-2,607)
  • Wii: 44,241 (-2,055)
  • PS3: 7,438 (-794)
  • PS2: 6,545 (-289)
  • X360: 1,076 (-71)

Nintendo makes money….yawn

Published by Robert under Sales Figures, Nintendo DS, Wii

Prints Money

That prints money image will never be put to rest. Month after month Nintendo rakes in the money and at this point I’m beginning to think they’re getting tired of it. Just kidding… who hates making money?

Nintendo reported their earnings for the fiscal year, which ended March 31st of this year. Here are the numbers: They’ve shipped 16.81 million Wii’s around the world, totaling 24.45 million since its launch in 2006. The DS shipped an amazing 30.31 million units worldwide, bringing the total to 70.6 million since its debut. Software wise, the Wii and DS have shipped 119.6 million and 185.62 million, respectively. All of this contributing to a 73% increase in sales to 1.67 trillion yen or 16.07 billion American dollars. Boy would I love a slice of that.

NPD Group: March sales and figures

Published by Pete under Sales Figures, Nintendo DS, Wii

It was a good month for Nintendo, to say the least. Super Smash Bros. Brawl topped the sales charts in the US with 2.7 million units sold, almost quadrupling Rainbow Six Vegas in the number two spot. Wii Play and Guitar Hero III also landed on the list for Nintendo.

In addition to taking the top software honors, the hardware field also felt the weight of Nintendo. The Wii and DS came in at number one and two with 721,000 and 698,000 units sold, respectively. Don’t expect the trend to slow down any time soon either with the launches of Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit just around the corner.

Full details of software and hardware after the break.

Media Crate: Japanese sales figures for April 7 - April 13

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Nintendo DS, Wii

By now, the shock has worn off as the DS continued to trail PSP sales in Japan. The Wii saw a marginal boost in sales, while increasing to nearly 6 times the hardware sales of its nearest home console competitor. On the software side, it was Mario Kart Wii Mania, as the game managed to EASILY take top honors despite launching in Japan more than halfway through the week.

  • PSP: 85,721 (-35,243)
  • DSL: 47,158 (-8,032)
  • Wii: 46,296 (+1,678)
  • PS3: 8,232 (-3,071)
  • PS2: 6,834 (-3,589)
  • X360: 1,147 (-305)

Media Crate: Japanese sales figures for March 31 - April 6

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Nintendo DS, Wii

The DS continued to fall behind this past week in Japanese hardware sales. The Wii held on to third place overall but way ahead of its primary “competitors.” Actually, it’s a nearly perfect replica of last week’s hardware sales chart. As for software, games for Sony platforms ruled the Top 5, but games for DS and Wii still ruled the Top 50. As expected, Galaxy is not on that list. Again.

  • PSP: 120,964 (-9,022)
  • DSL: 55,190 (-3,726)
  • Wii: 44,618 (-4,167)
  • PS3: 11,303 (+97)
  • PS2: 10,423 (+127)
  • X360: 1,452 (-95)

Full software sales rankings can be found after the break. Oh, and the picture above (from Ling Ling Ang’s Flickr) has absolutely nothing to do with Japanese sales. It’s just some normal people playing their DS Lites. Normal.

Nintendo takes top spot in UK

Published by Pete under Sales Figures, Wii

nintendo-medal.jpg

Every year, Develop magazine runs a list of the 100 most successful companies in the United Kingdom. Topping the list for 2007, is none other than Nintendo with £129.83 million. This almost doubles the number two spot held by EA Canada with £68.78 million. How long have the Wii and DS been out in Europe now? 16 months and 37 months, respectively? About time, Nintendo.

Ubisoft Montreal, Konami, and (the first American company to show up for the party) Infinity Ward round out the top five in the three, four, and five spots, respectively.

Media Crate: Japanese sales figures for March 24 - 30

Published by Christian under Sales Figures, Nintendo DS, Wii

080404deadmarios.jpg

Both the Wii and DS Lite took a dive in sales over in Japan compared to the previous week. You can thank the latest Monster Hunter game on the PSP for that. Comparatively, the Wii still fared much better than its competition for the week ending March 30. On the software side, 32 different titles for Nintendo platforms made the top 50, including 13 published by Nintendo. Unfortunately, Super Mario Galaxy was not among the top 50 last week.

  • PSP: 129,986 (+70,153)
  • DSL: 58,916 (-6,139)
  • Wii: 48,785 (-13,619)
  • PS3: 11,206 (-1,668)
  • PS2: 10,296 (+306)
  • X360: 1,547 (+140)
