Incredible art shows the original concept for The Legend of Zelda

Published by Michael under Novelty

Some of this art has already been shown off, but there are a couple of new images that have surfaced. If Nintendo is serious about going in a different direction this time around with the Zelda series, it looks like they have all sorts of amazing concept material to fall back on curtesy of renowned illustrator Katsuya Terada.

If Aonuma and Miyamoto could pull of this kind of art style in-game, it would have to be considered a mandatory game of the decade. Check after the break for more potential wallpapers.

Piranha plant moves to dangerous territory

Published by Pete under Novelty

piranha-undies.jpg

I’m not sure if you have to sign a release before you can wear them, but I’ll admit they have me a bit nervous. As if a man-eating plant on my underwear wasn’t scary enough, they had to go and put it on a pair of briefs and make me more self conscious. If it were boxers, fine. Boxer briefs, I could handle that. But these, my friend, are one pair of whitey-tighties (actually black) that only the bold can wear. They come in one size, 32″-34″, and are available for $17.00.

Have Brawl matches without a Wii: TRU Mario toy sale

Published by Ryan under Novelty, Nintendoness

mariotoysale.JPGFor those of you who are adult enough to admit wanting to act out some real life Super Smash Bros. Brawl fights on the kitchen table or bedroom floor, here is your chance. Toys “R” Us is having a sale on Nintendo figures. For $3.99 each, potential buyers can choose between: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Bullet Bill.

Stock up folks, years from now these will be collector’s items. It also makes bathtub time fun again! Now if only Matthew would allow me to borrow his Snake toys for the ultimate Mario showdown. Anybody want to take any bets?

Puma spawns Tetris catastrophe

Published by Pete under Novelty

tetris-kicks.jpg

I’m not sure who put Vanilla Ice, spandex pants, and a Game Boy into a shoe producing blender (they exist, trust me) but Puma has decided to sell the retina-burning offspring. There are even two sweet color schemes to choose from. The fine detail on the upper portion is decorated with little Tetris pieces, which is kind of cool. Maybe.

You will probably have more luck creating some Nintendo inspired shoes yourself like Joe Colon did with his Smash Bros. kicks awhile back. On a more positive note, Puma’s footwear would certainly give the owner’s fandom some well deserved bonus points. Anyone willing to take a hit to the fashion kidneys* for their love of games is alright in my book. Just be prepared to point out the small Tetris pieces to skeptics in an effort to save your dignity. More photos, and closer shots of the Tetris inspired detail after the break.

*fashion kidneys do not actually exist

25 lost tracks discovered on SSBB disc

Published by Robert under Novelty, Wii

tanooki-ssbb.jpg

Sometimes being nosey really does pays off. A Peeping Tom was snooping around the Smash Bros. Brawl disc when they came upon 25 tracks that, for some unknown reason, went unused in the game. The list is rather impressive, featuring sound effects from Melee, original titles, and full length remixes of classic tracks. The tunes are available for download over at the link below and await your music player of choice.

Activision says they’re sorry - through free faceplates!

Published by Christian under Corporate/Business, Novelty, Wii

080322gh3plates.jpg

Wanting to earn your trust back after giving you mono… sound output in your copies of Guitar Hero III, Activision has taken it upon themselves to quietly deliver a free gift. You should be receiving your replacement Guitar Hero III game discs soon if you haven’t already, and it may be followed by a Guitar Hero III Les Paul faceplate. That’s some good PR right there, don’t you think?

Thanks - we still <3 you, Activision.

mario cake

Cue the saliva production to enter overdrive. I know that the guilt (of both my love handles as well as my nerd nostalgia) would kill me to destroy it, but either way it’s an impressive cake.
