If Sonic were a real hedgehog, what would he look like?

Published by Robert under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

sonic-the-real-hedgehog.jpg

Sonic isn’t an accurate portrayal of what a Hedgehog really looks like. Many of us have probably found that out the hard way through a documentary on the National Geographic Channel or a textbook as we grew up. But what if our beloved Sonic were to look like an actual Hedgehog? Using Adobe CS3 and Wacom Intous3 Pen Tablet, computer artist Marcus Blattermann drew what he believes is Sonic the REAL Hedgehog. An amazing piece of work, but I prefer my blue, more attractive Sonic over the brown one any day.

reNESED makes the original NES chic, attractive

Published by Robert under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

renesed.jpg

Don’t get me wrong - the original NES was a masterpiece; but the its aesthetics could always use a little face lift. Then again, anything from the 80’s could. While this redesign of the NES (called reNESED) doesn’t exist, it’s always nice to dream. Javier Segovia is an graphic designer living in Spain, and the one behind the reNESED. The remake features a red and black color scheme, wireless controllers and what seems to be a hint of the Wii with the glowing lights. Friggin’ awesome.

Bright up your score with Duck Hunt lamp

Published by Ryan under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

duck_lamp.jpg

Did you ever want to shoot that annoying laughing dog from Duck Hunt? It seems somebody has decided to literally put the NES Zapper to the dog’s backside.

This lamp is complete with a replica Duck Hunt cartridge stand, Zapper base and 8-bit pixelated Duck Hunt shade. Unfortuately the lamp’s creator, fluffypants, doesn’t have a picture of this lamp lit up, but she has stated that it works fine.

The gift that tells your special someone they’re on fire

Published by Robert under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

flower-fire.jpg

These flowers are a great gift for that special someone for two reasons. One, they don’t die. Two, they’re awesome. Any gamer girl/guy would appreciate these handcrafted flowers since it pays tribute to one of the, if not most iconic video game character of all, Mario. Available now for $30 over at Etsy. Thanks to Oceansboy for the tip!

Another type of Mario Kart… sort of

Published by Pete under Novelty, Misc

gamecar.jpg

I’m not sure I should admit this, but I had a Pokemon Yellow Game Boy that is the exact same shade as this car. It’s creepy, I can almost see my little trainer leading around Pikachu in the rear window. Either way it’s awesome all the way down to the licence plates, and it has probably had more kids stop to press those over-sized buttons than you could shake a stick at.

Artistic skill + patience = Mega Wall

Published by Robert under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

mega-wall.jpg

Flickr user dergutemoritz created this NES masterpiece using 7×7cm paper squares and a great deal of patience. This well thought out design is cheap, beautiful and erasable if you should for some reason begin to despise this classic Nintendo character. His step-by-step documentation is available on his Flickr set which is conveniently linked below.

Boo-tiful patio table

Published by Pete under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

boo-3.jpg

This is probably the scariest table I have ever seen, and by scariest I mean most awesome. It started with the need to make a standard white table ready for the great outdoors and patio compatible. Since it was going to be tiled, it might as well be tiled with something cool right? This might be my favorite piece of Nintendo art I’ve seen. Consider that a challenge. More pictures of the process after the break.

Want! Virtual Console ready SNES controller

Published by Michael under Novelty, Virtual Console

If you find yourself looking at your classic controller and sighing at what you could be using to play Super Metroid and your various Street Fighter iterations, look no further! Behold: the Super Famicom (NES) Classic Controller! Previously only available to Club Nintendo members, Play-Asia and NCSX are making it available for pre-order.

At the time of writing, NCSX isn’t taking any more pre-orders, and Play-Asia has yet to make the product available, but I’ll be keeping an eye on this, so keep checking back. Head on past the break for Inside-Games’ magnificent newly received controller.

I shall call him… Mini Wii.

Published by Christian under Novelty

080410miniwii.jpg

Ever wonder what your Wii and copy of Wii Sports would look like if it went through the wash? A good number of them would come out completely ruined, yes. But maybe, just maybe, by some stroke of luck you could get lucky and something like this could happen. Clearly, My Name Is!!! was able to shrink the Wii down (as if it weren’t portable enough) to pocket-sized. Maybe even key-chain size. Ahem.

Incredible art shows the original concept for The Legend of Zelda

Published by Michael under Novelty

Some of this art has already been shown off, but there are a couple of new images that have surfaced. If Nintendo is serious about going in a different direction this time around with the Zelda series, it looks like they have all sorts of amazing concept material to fall back on curtesy of renowned illustrator Katsuya Terada.

If Aonuma and Miyamoto could pull of this kind of art style in-game, it would have to be considered a mandatory game of the decade. Check after the break for more potential wallpapers.
