Club Nintendo heads to Australia

Published by Robert under Nintendoness

cntanooki.jpgWith the release of Mario Kart Wii next week in Australia will come the birth of Club Nintendo; a good one-two punch if you ask me. I’ve always yearned for the opportunity to partake in Club Nintendo, especially since I own almost every piece of hardware from Nintendo and possess quite the software library. All of that would surely rack up enough points for a great Nintendo-themed gift.

Please, Nintendo, bring Club Nintendo to America!

Johnny Lee at the Technology Entertainment Design conference

Published by Michael under Videos, Nintendoness

Even though we’ve all seen Johnny’s work before, it’s great to take a look at the guy now that he is well known throughout the research and (especially) the gaming community. In this video, Johnny is giving the same basic speech seen in his previous YouTube demonstrations, but this time we get the feel of the crowd, and every once in a while he’ll drop some numbers on just how big of an impact his software has had. Our little boy is all grown up..

Modded SNES provides classic games on the go

Published by Robert under Nintendoness

Portable SNES

Up until now, nothing - and I mean nothing - has rivaled my DS for gaming on the go. It’s in my bookbag no matter where I venture off to: be it class, work, or in Central Park. But this, this beautifully modded handheld device certainly gives my DS some competition. Pictured above is a SNES modded for on-the-go-gaming; powered by dual 7.2 v 2400 mAh li-ion batteries, this admirable piece of hardware features a 5-inch LCD display, 2P controller port, A/V out and, of course, custom-made shoulder buttons. The games fit snug on the top of the hardware as if it were a DS game, only 20x larger. Now only if this guy would make me one.

Have Brawl matches without a Wii: TRU Mario toy sale

Published by Ryan under Novelty, Nintendoness

mariotoysale.JPGFor those of you who are adult enough to admit wanting to act out some real life Super Smash Bros. Brawl fights on the kitchen table or bedroom floor, here is your chance. Toys “R” Us is having a sale on Nintendo figures. For $3.99 each, potential buyers can choose between: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Bullet Bill.

Stock up folks, years from now these will be collector’s items. It also makes bathtub time fun again! Now if only Matthew would allow me to borrow his Snake toys for the ultimate Mario showdown. Anybody want to take any bets?

Nintendo improves Greenpeace score to 0.3

Published by Christian under Corporate/Business, Nintendoness

080318greennintendo.jpg

Remember when Nintendo scored a 0/10 in environmental performance? It was mostly because their information isn’t public. Since then, Greenpeace has gotten hints that Nintendo does indeed have a chemicals management policy. Despite not knowing the details, this alone was enough to bump Nintendo up a third of a point! …almost.

“Nintendo has made some tiny changes to score 0.3, since being the first company to score 0 when added last November… Nintendo remains the odd one out of the 18 companies in the Guide, without any public time lines to eliminate the worst toxic chemicals or a global recycling policy for the millions of products it sells every year. If Nintendo has better policies why not make them public like the other 17 companies in the Guide?”

For those who can’t help but want to compare, Sony remained at a 7.3/10 rating (though the PlayStation division shows no green innovation), while Microsoft rose from a 2.7 to a 4.7/10 rating.

Nike shoes imbued with Brawl awesomeness

Published by Michael under Culture, Nintendoness

Joseph Colon decided to take a pair of Nike’s Air Force 1 shoes and make them 10X better. All 36 playable characters from Super Smash Bros. Brawl are shown off, as well as a cameo appearance by the Master Hand on the heels of each shoe. The only minor drawback is the slightly off gray color of the added material. Check out some more angles of the shoes after the break.

Mario brought to life… unfortunately

Published by Christian under Arts & Crafts, Nintendoness

080315realmario.jpg

Remember when Homer fell into the real world? Well, what if Mario did the same thing, via pipe or something? For one thing, it’d be pretty disgusting popping out of a real sewage pipe. After that, Mario just needs to look into a mirror to realize the horrors of this world of ours.

Though, I don’t recall Mario ever having stubble on that chin of his…

Nintendo ranks first in the Top 50 Developers 2008 report

Published by Michael under Nintendoness

Not surprising considering Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the success of WiiFit, and the soon to be released Super Smash Bros. Brawl in North America, Nintendo has been crowned king of developers. Interestingly, there are 3 Canadian developers among the top 12: EA Canada, Bioware Edmonton, and Ubisoft Montreal. Check after the break for the full list.

Freakish man dons Pikachu suit, sneaks into Super Smash Bros Brawl

Published by Michael under Novelty, Videos, Nintendoness

What happens when you start switching movesets among brawlers? You get some really weird stuff going on, including an awkwardly squatting cel-shaded Link. Check it out, and pray Nintendo don’t get any ideas for another evolutionary form for Pikachu.

More Proof: Women cosplay better than their gender counterparts

Published by Michael under Culture, Nintendoness

We’ve all kind of accepted the fact that a lot of Japanese heroes have a certain feminine nature. Which is why seeing our favourite male protagonists being cosplayed by the other sex so intriguing. These two ladies have taken no shortcuts in their costumes, right down to the bottles of potion, bow and arrow, boomerang, book of Mudora, and.. cell phone?

Check after the break for a lovely pile of pictures of the two heroines.
