Update! Animal Crossing: City Folk screens

Published by Pete

Nintendo has been kind enough to release some images of the anticipated title. Click over to see several screens of the game in action, as well as some characters. I’m just glad to see that Saturday nights will most likely be populated by the famous K.K. Slider once again. Nintendo’s official word about the game along with the screens when you click over.

WiiSpeak will bring voice chat to Wii

With the launch of Animal Crossing: City Folk later this year, Nintendo will be stepping out of their comfort zone, and into the world of voice chat. WiiSpeak, a device that is designed to sit on top of your sensor bar, will allow an entire room of players to communicate via one microphone.

This strays from the traditional headset mentality, but will work wonders in games like Mario Kart or Animal Crossing where there is often a room of players commenting on the action. Some may prefer the traditional style of a personal mic, but I applaud Nintendo for trying something different that fits the style of their system. Additional picture after the break.

Wii Sports: Resort follows in the original’s footsteps

Published by Pete
Tags: E3 2008, Wii, Wii Sports Resort

One of the biggest reason for the success of the Wii is the ability for Wii Sports to attract new players. The first day with a group of 4 trying their hardest to track down that digital tennis ball is definitely memorable, and Nintendo is trying to recapture the magic with a follow up title.

Wii Sports Resort takes place, as you might expect, at a beach. Three of the included games were shown, all taking advantage of advanced motion control via the Wii MotionPlus attachment revealed earlier. The games were a frisbee throwing game, a jet-ski simulator, and a sword dueling mode. The motion capture does seem to be much more accurate than the current Wiimote’s capabilities, but I’m going to hold off until I can get the word from someone with a hands on opinion. The game is set to launch next spring. Press release after the break.

Animal Crossing confirmed! Coming late 2008

Published by Pete

During Nintendo’s E3 keynote, Animal Crossing: City Folk was officially unveiled. The game looks much like the older iterations, but will include more robust online options. It is by no means MMO material, but does at least usher in voice chat. A microphone designed to work with a whole room to speak through will work with the game. Finally, voice support!

Technical Difficulties

Published by Pete

The Tanooki crew down in LA may not be able to get internet access, which means unfortunately their live feed of the conference will be video-less for the time being. We’ll cross our fingers for something to work out. I’ll be right here with a live transcript.

Speakers for Nintendo’s keynote revealed

Published by Pete
Tags: E3 2008, Nintendo, speakers

The start of the press conference is just hours away, but if you are anything like myself and have trouble getting to sleep on Christmas Eve, this list could help pass the time. Some are usuals, some are new to the show, but all should be there tomorrow morning:

  • Nintendo Co Ltd. President Satoru Iwata
  • Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime
  • Designer/producer Shigeru Miyamoto
  • NOA Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Cammie Dunaway
  • NOA Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs Denise Kaigler

I know that Shiggy usually makes an appearance, but I can’t help but get excited when i see his name on the list. Hopefully that isn’t the order of the program, because ending with Denise Kaigler (no offense Denise, I’m sure you’re wonderful) wouldn’t feel right. Let the insomniac speculation begin!

Slimmer, cheaper DS model on the way?

DS \

According to who IGN say are “trusted insiders”, Nintendo will be releasing a slimmer and much cheaper ($100 or lower!) DS redesign. This new DS model may or may not ditch the GBA slot, and also is rumored to either have an accelerometer built-in, or else Nintendo is planning on including an accelerometer in the actual DS cartridges themselves. Well, if and when Nintendo decides to redesign the DS, will you be interested? What if it cost under $100?

Who’s that Pokemon? It’s Pikachu!

Or is it? (careful, there’s a bit of swearing in this video) With E3 already underway, we’re going to be getting a massive amount gamer-friendly news over the next week, so to help fans stay in touch and persevere, we need a little humor every once in a while to tide us over. You remember the “Who’s that Pokemon” game? I’m pretty sure anyone who’s played Pokemon or watched the TV series itself for long enough pretty much aced it every time. Not this kid.

Rock Band 2 track list revealed

Published by Pete
Tags: E3 2008, Rock Band 2

Fresh out of Microsoft’s showing in Los Angeles, Rock Band 2 is shipping with 84 tracks this fall. Included is a smattering of artists, from AC/DC to Bod Dylan to Guns N’ Roses. The best news, in my opinion, is that all of the tracks are master recording. Well played Harmonix, well played. Full list after the break.
