Miyamoto talks of first person Ocarina of Time

Published by Pete under Misc

zeldafps.jpg

The famed creator of many of Nintendo’s biggest franchises recently commented on the idea of a first person Zelda. During the development of Ocarina of Time, Miyamoto himself suggested the use of first person to further envelope the player as well as give the CPU a little break from rendering the character model the entire time.

Interesting to hear this from the big guy himself. Could this perhaps be what he meant when he said Twilight Princess was the last Zelda game of its kind?

Wii Fit could be the fittest fitness device ever

Published by Pete under Culture, Misc

richardsimons.jpg

While many people are welcoming Wii Fit into their living rooms with open arms, did anyone stop to think of the spandex-clad, headband wearing, always friendly 80’s style fitness gurus? I didn’t think so.

Wii Fit is on course to be the best selling fitness device ever. It has been and will continue outselling exercise bikes, the Gazelle, celebrity exercise DVD’s, you name it. I’m concerned that this leaves many video trainers out in the cold with only a thin layer of stretch pants to shield them from the winds of change. Don’t be surprised if “Richard Simmons: Sweating with Wii Fit” hits the shelves later this year. I’d buy it.

All nine games created for the N64DD come included in this bid, in their original boxing, making it all the more special. As of this post, the bid is at GBP 460.00 ($908.45).

Thoughts of new Mario and Zelda from Miyamoto

Published by Pete under Misc, Wii

endofthetunnel.jpg

In an interview with Famitsu, Miyamoto briefly mentioned that he had been thinking about the next step in each of the big games from Nintendo.

While there doesn’t seem to be anything to really get excited about, its hard not to when word of a Galaxy sequel or a Zelda title with precise motion controls gets out. Especially when it comes from the man who started it all. Let’s cross our fingers that another game in each series lands on the Wii.

Nintendo may have plans for Second Life

Published by Robert under Misc, Nintendoness

nintendo-second-life.jpg One of the few things more successful than Nintendo’s DS and Wii is Second Life. Millions of people worldwide frequent the service and enjoy living their second life (get it?) through their computers. So, it would come as no surprise when we hear the creation of Nintendo Island. While there’s no confirmation from Nintendo themselves just yet, DMCA’s enforcement policy wouldn’t allow any stranger to create such an island without proper licensing. Mark this isle under “rumor” for now; if and when Nintendo releases a statement we’ll update you.

Miyamoto is YOUR Time’s #1 most influential person

Published by Robert under Misc, Nintendoness

miyamoto-knight-resize.jpgTime asked its readers who they thought was the most influential person of the year. Nintendo’s own Shigeru Miyamoto rose as the victor, defeating over 199 other candidates all while receiving nearly 2,000,000 votes — 300,000 votes over the runner-up, Rain. Seems as if Nintendo’s lead in the gaming industry is migrating over to other areas of the world.

So, what’s next? Cover of GQ? Two-page spread in Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue? Congrats, Miyamoto.

Lapel pins of death… RETURN!

Published by Pete under Corporate/Business, Misc

lapel-pin.jpg

Nintendo released a statement recalling pins that were sold between April 2004 and November 2007 at either the Nintendo World Store in New York or their employee store in Redmond. The pins apparently contain a potentially lethal amount of lead. So if you have been sleeping with your Mario pin in your mouth I would suggest changing your habits, or at least send it in to have it replaced with a toxin free pin. Picture of the evil pins (which I want) and replacement options after the break.

Nintendo Power hints at a big surprise in the near future

Published by Robert under Misc, Nintendoness

nintendo-secret-image-moon.jpg

This months Nintendo Power concluded with that picture of a fiery moon. Below the scan, it says: “As we head into summer, expect things to heat up in the pages of Nintendo Power. July’s issue will include big updates on Ghostbusters, Sonic Chronicles, and Time Hollow. We may even have a surprise or two. Can you find the clues we’ve hidden in the moon? See you in 30!”

Well, get to guessing, Tanooki readers. A new Harvest Moon title would be too easy a guess. Anyone have one of those paper 3D glasses laying around?

Another type of Mario Kart… sort of

Published by Pete under Novelty, Misc

gamecar.jpg

I’m not sure I should admit this, but I had a Pokemon Yellow Game Boy that is the exact same shade as this car. It’s creepy, I can almost see my little trainer leading around Pikachu in the rear window. Either way it’s awesome all the way down to the licence plates, and it has probably had more kids stop to press those over-sized buttons than you could shake a stick at.

The best part of waking up, is… Adolf Hitler?

Published by Pete under Misc, Wii

hitler-kart2.jpg

Today while taking Mario Kart Wii for its inaugural run, one of my friends, who created a Mii that looks more like him than he does, showed up advertising coffee in this same spot. I chuckled a little, and made sure to take the same route on the next lap to giggle again.

When I saw this photo posted by Flickr user Truth3, which finally puts those novelty Mii’s to good use, I couldn’t contain myself. The only thing better than ein Glas Kaffee would be Alf’s furry face up there peddling his wares.
