Metroid Prime 3…D! Sort of.

Published by Christian under Arts & Crafts, Wii

080508met3d.jpg

Remember when anaglyph images were the big thing? No? Maybe your older brother does and he’s got some red-blue 3D glasses he can let you borrow. NE’s Valay has gone and used his mad skills to create Metroid Prime 3: Corruption anaglyph images for your viewing pleasure, which you can see some of after the break. Granted, it’s not the best option to take single screenshots and “convert” them to 3D without having a second viewing angle, but it’s a start.

If you too have mad skills (i.e., Photoshop), maybe some of you can whip up some Nintendo-related anaglyph images of your own and send them our way? Or Magic Eye-type stereograms. Remember Magic-Eye?

NES controller coffee table promotes playing with furniture

Published by Pete under Arts & Crafts

nestable1.jpg

I thought the boo-themed table was pretty sweet, but this homemade icon of gaming glory from Kyle Downes trumps it. Not only is the recreation beautifully done, but the controller is fully functional. Just remove the glass top, and play away. There is also a massive storage area that the owner has filled with all sorts of gaming goodness. Want!

More pictures after the break showing the functionality.

reNESED makes the original NES chic, attractive

Published by Robert under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

renesed.jpg

Don’t get me wrong - the original NES was a masterpiece; but the its aesthetics could always use a little face lift. Then again, anything from the 80’s could. While this redesign of the NES (called reNESED) doesn’t exist, it’s always nice to dream. Javier Segovia is an graphic designer living in Spain, and the one behind the reNESED. The remake features a red and black color scheme, wireless controllers and what seems to be a hint of the Wii with the glowing lights. Friggin’ awesome.

Bright up your score with Duck Hunt lamp

Published by Ryan under Novelty, Arts & Crafts

duck_lamp.jpg

Did you ever want to shoot that annoying laughing dog from Duck Hunt? It seems somebody has decided to literally put the NES Zapper to the dog’s backside.

This lamp is complete with a replica Duck Hunt cartridge stand, Zapper base and 8-bit pixelated Duck Hunt shade. Unfortuately the lamp’s creator, fluffypants, doesn’t have a picture of this lamp lit up, but she has stated that it works fine.

These flowers are a great gift for that special someone for two reasons. One, they don’t die. Two, they’re awesome. Any gamer girl/guy would appreciate these handcrafted flowers since it pays tribute to one of the, if not most iconic video game character of all, Mario. Available now for $30 over at Etsy. Thanks to Oceansboy for the tip!

Just when you think you’re ahead in the race

Published by Robert under Arts & Crafts

blue-shell-comic.jpg

Darn those blue shells. I can’t come up with the words to explain the way I feel when I’m about to win a race then that all-to-familiar blue shell icon appears in the bottom half of my screen. Then … boom. I drop to second, third and finally, place fourth, in a matter of seconds.

Tetris theme created using bottles of water

Published by Robert under Videos, Arts & Crafts

If you’ve yet to get tired of hearing Nintendo themes recreated using bottles, then this video is for you. Three people took the time out of their busy schedules and patience to do their own rendition of the popular Tetris theme using various types of bottles filled with water. How the guy on the lower left didn’t knock his teeth out doing his back and forth motion whilst blowing into the bottles is beyond me.

Getting married? Put a NES in your cake!

Published by Robert under Arts & Crafts

nintendo-nes-cake.jpg

What better way to celebrate your marriage than eating a tasty, extravagant cake? By throwing a good ol’ NES in it, of course. The couple in the above picture decided to commemorate the most important day in their lives by putting together a cake filled with things that mean a lot to one another. One of those things being a NES. Yes, coffee is spilt on top of it, but who hasn’t accidentally ruined their favorite console? My brother, when we were younger, put coins in my NES; to this day they’re still inside.

Cool off with a nice glass of Nintendo

Published by Pete under Arts & Crafts

glass3.jpg

It started with a personalized glass as a birthday present for one of my gamer friends, and from there I couldn’t contain the nerd instincts to make more themed glasses. More designs, Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime to be specific, after the break. Tell me what you think, and any ideas you have for other designs! I’m partial to the Twilight Princess glass, I start off each day with some Lon Lon Milk out of one.

The Legend of Papercraft: The Mitt Maker

Published by Pete under Arts & Crafts

floor-master-zelda-papercraft.jpg

Forget about Mario or Link or Pikachu, how about that creepy hand that follows you in some dungeons of Hyrule. This version of the “Floormaster” is from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and does a great job of portraying the game’s style. Sure this is sort of an obscure character to be paper-crafting, but there is no denying how awesome it is.
