Become a staff member of The Tanooki!
The Tanooki is now hiring for the following position(s):
Reporter/Writer:
As a reporter/writer for The Tanooki, you will be asked to post about the daily news, much like you see our current staff doing on a fairly consistent basis on our front page. You will rely on our official press and media sources, tips from user submissions, as well as news from various other gaming websites via browsing or RSS feeds.
You will be involved with posting about various topics, such as industry news, gaming media, gaming in society and culture. When time allows, you will be encouraged to write original feature articles and/or editorials as often as possible.
Requirements:
- Must demonstrate at least a college-level writing ability.
- Basic photo editing skills (cropping) are necessary. Other photo editing skills are a plus.
- Available to post for at least a few hours, 4 days a week. Once again, availability for additional days or daily is a plus.
- Basic HTML knowledge is helpful.
Along with filling out the application below, applicants must also submit three (3) writing samples, one in each of the following categories:
- Event or Industry
- Screenshots, Video, or Other Media
- Society or Culture
For the first, you can report on just any big, gaming news item you want. For the second, find a collection of screenshots or a video that you might upload and post about (or embed, in the case of a video). You don’t have to send in the screens/video - placeholder text and a link are fine - but send in whatever text you would use to accompany the post, as well as source. For the last one, find some wacky gaming culture article that you might post about, and submit that. For all articles, include a title and a reasonably sized and cropped (by you) banner or image to accompany the article (not needed for a screenshot post), as well as the source you used (try and use original sources). If you feel your post would use the “break” feature, indicate where it would be placed.
Please demonstrate your ability to proofread, and your ability to find a nice balance between writing about the actual topic at hand and throwing in your own commentary. Your written article should be as thorough as you intend to be posts on the website. Writing samples should be submitted to apply@thetanooki.com in either .doc or .html format. Also, be sure to attach your name to each article for identification. Once you submit your writing sample, fill out the application below. Go ahead, be creative with the last question.
Now that you have submitted your writing sample and the application above, that’s it. You are done! You should hear back from us in a few days once we review your submissions. Good luck!
