These are inherent problems in a multi-console industry. We got a taste of this in the Hi-def video war, but Sony came out on top in that one. I have a feeling that the console wars will eventually give way to a single, universal console, but the how and when of that happening is beyond my comprehension. This list is sort of look into the future of gaming – to a time when we can all get along and all play the same games (without having to drop several thousand bucks on various consoles and peripherals… PC gaming included).

Coming from a very specific background of gaming, this list may be a little biased, but I wholeheartedly believe that every game on this list deserves to be on the Wii – regardless of who developed it and disregarding any difficulties involving the publisher or rights. A sort of video game transmogrifier. Feel free to add to the list in the comments section! Just narrow your favorite games down to the ones that could make good use of the Wii Remote.

1. Bioshock

For those who have played Bioshock and have experienced the chilling atmosphere, fast-paced action, and fantastic storytelling, you know exactly what I mean when I say this game absolutely deserves to be on the Wii. Without even going into the Wii’s first-person potential with it’s pointer functionality, Bioshock is a game that relies on mood, music, atmosphere, and mise-en-scene (objects that appear on screen at any given time). The game would surely suffer in terms of graphics on the Wii (specifically with the photorealistic water that is found everywhere), but is this a problem? If gamers can be emotionally attached to polygon-era video game characters, they won’t find the Wii’s lack of graphical power too distracting. Bioshock is an incredible game, but gamers with a Wii looking for this type of game have been left out in the cold.

2. Rise of Nations

Rise of Nations is the be-all and end-all of realistic, real-time strategy games. It starts in the ancient era and moves smoothly through time to the modern era. It is a highly-rated RTS, and would take advantage of something that developers haven’t really experimented with on consoles in a long time; there have been attempts before, but the joystick-button-trigger combination hasn’t allowed for anything rivaling the precision and speed of a mouse – the RTS’ best friend. But the Wii? The Wii changes things. The Wii pointer arguably gives the player even more precision and ease of use than a mouse. The only potential problem for such a port would be the demographic and the genre’s past failures on consoles. Rise of Nations is just happens to be my favorite RTS, but StarCraft, Warcraft, Age of Empires, and Command and Conquer all have massive potential on the Wii.

Thanks to the good folks over at Pure Nintendo, we’ve got some details translated from Japan’s Famitsu magazine. I have yet to play a Monster Hunter game, but given the series’ massive popularity in Japan, and the possibility of 4-player co-op? Count me in. Check after the break for all of the details.

• The concept for the game, according to Tsujimoto, is to restart Monster Hunter from scratch, filling the game with new ideas. The switch in platforms from the PS2 to the Wii was one of the reasons for this big rethinking of the series, Fujioka explained.
• Monster Hunter 3 takes place on a new, unexplored island: thick forests, dark caves, deep/underwater environments
• Players have full swimming controls for hunting underwater as well as fishing for use as ingredients
• Ability to use long-range weapons underwater, and most land-based actions
• Air Gauge while underwater, similar to stamina gauge on land (depletes over time)
• Caves can be explored using light from torches, otherwise too dark for hunting
• All new monsters as well as some from past versions with added ‘freshness’ to them
• One creature getting lots of attention: giant underwater dragon known as ‘king of the waters’. He is the game’s main monster.  He can survive on land, so players have choice of where to fight him
• Online component: Online mode played in 4-player groups like the older PS2 installments
• MH3 retains concept of a ‘city’ which acts as lobby for chatting and meeting with other players
• When playing single player, the city slowly expands with new facilities and access routes to other areas of the island
• Game will be playable at TGS 2008 starting October 9

Remember Captain Rainbow? We saw that trailer of him in action a little while ago, but we haven’t heard from him in a little while. Up until now that is. 1UP dug up some interesting tidbits explaining what the game is all about. Turns out, Captain Rainbow can be compared to a wacky mix of Animal Crossing and Mario.

Gamers at one point in the game will travel around Mimin Island (the game’s setting), conversing with the locals, figuring out what ails them, and gathering crystals called kirarin. The other half of the game is enjoyed by spending 20 of your kirarin to unlock a side-scrolling action event. The point of each action sequence is to collect a star that will help a single resident in achieving their dreams.

Sounds interesting, but will it make it ever make it to the new world and other parts of the old? Stay tuned to find out more!

While Street Fighter IV has been confirmed for release on the DS, we know it will look nothing like what the above trailer has to offer. Still, it’s good to see how the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are coming along. Plus, it’ll give us an idea of how the DS version will play in terms of the style of combat.

Well, in terms of shock value, the announcement of Animal Crossing: City Folk didn’t really even register, seeing as how it was predicted and hinted at prior to E3. What is shocking however, is the fact that the game looks like it was ported directly from the Gamecube.

Don’t get me wrong, there should be a lot of fun stuff to do in the city, and no doubt all sorts of new conversations have been written for the neighbors, but what else? Is that it? I would buy it if it was a direct port of Animal Crossing: Wide World, but I was hoping for something a little bit more substantial. Besides the 4-player gaming at the end of course.

In a move that has Activision’s strategy marked all over it, Guitar Hero On Tour Decades was announced for the DS. Little is known of the title, hopefully our Tanooki counterparts in LA can help us out soon, but we do know that a song sharing feature will allow, you guessed it, song-sharing between both the first DS Guitar Hero, and the newly announced version.

With the DS’ hardware restrictions, this basically means that you’ll be able to send a song to a friend to play on his/her version until they turn off their DS, just like a downloadable demo. Still, doesn’t this seem a bit soon? What are your thoughts? Buyable, or forgettable?

According to who IGN say are “trusted insiders”, Nintendo will be releasing a slimmer and much cheaper ($100 or lower!) DS redesign. This new DS model may or may not ditch the GBA slot, and also is rumored to either have an accelerometer built-in, or else Nintendo is planning on including an accelerometer in the actual DS cartridges themselves. Well, if and when Nintendo decides to redesign the DS, will you be interested? What if it cost under $100?

Or is it? (careful, there’s a bit of swearing in this video) With E3 already underway, we’re going to be getting a massive amount gamer-friendly news over the next week, so to help fans stay in touch and persevere, we need a little humor every once in a while to tide us over. You remember the “Who’s that Pokemon” game? I’m pretty sure anyone who’s played Pokemon or watched the TV series itself for long enough pretty much aced it every time. Not this kid.

Visit either the Japanese or North American Square Enix countdown page and you’ll see what I mean. Is it really happening? Chrono Trigger on the DS? Looks like my “not probable” line may have been a bit too harsh.

The important thing to note here, is that there are two sites and possibly more. Which confirms the possible release in North America soon after if not alongside the probable Japanese launch.

It seems like we’ve heard more rumors about the Chrono series than any other over the past decade, most of them completely fabricated. This particular one is kind of intriguing, supposedly coming from an upcoming issue of Jump, the image’s low quality “fuzz” is spread evenly over the entire image and is consistent, indicating that if there was some editing done, it was done on a pretty good quality image and then reduced afterwards.

Either way, with all the support the DS has been receiving from Squeenix these days, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy just for starters, it’s definitely in the realm of possibility.

While the Wii generally doesn’t see games with the graphical detail put into Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 games, every now and then a game comes along that completely disregards the trend. Tenchu 4 appears to be one of those games. Graphics make up a very small portion of what makes a great game, well… great, but it is the easiest thing to judge it by, especially this early in the game’s life.

As promised by founder Kerry Ganofsky, The Conduit looks to be really raising the bar in terms of the Wii’s graphical output (From third parties at least).

Although, while it’s always refreshing to see a pretty game come along, nobody in their right mind remembers it or pays it any attention at all if the gameplay, sound, and story suck. Hopefully we’ll hear a little more about those last three aspects of the game in the near future. But for now, we can all get a little excited about a nice looking and mature shooter on the Wii, something we’re all desperately craving.
