2016 Game Awards Predictions & Opinions

BEST VR GAME

  • Batman: Arkham VR (Rocksteady Studios/Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment)
  • Eve: Valkyrie (CCP Games)
  • Job Simulator (Owlchemy Labs)
  • Rez Infinite (Enhance Games)
  • Thumper (Drool)

I’m just going to skip this category as I haven’t played any of these games, and it doesn’t seem like many have. Umm… eeny, meeny, miney, Rez Infinite wins? Honestly, I think Until Dawn: Rush of Blood looks like the coolest VR game I’ve seen, but until the price on VR tech drops, I see it as another gaming fad — just like motion controls.

BEST ACTION GAME

  • Battlefield 1 (EA DICE/Electronic Arts)
  • Doom (id Software/Bethesda Softworks)
  • Gears Of War 4 (The Coalition/Microsoft Studios)
  • Overwatch (Blizzard Entertainment)
  • Titanfall 2 (Respawn Entertainment/Electronic Arts)

Predicted Winner: Overwatch

Personal Pick: Doom

As much as I believe Doom earns this judging by how much it raised my adrenaline every second walking into a fire fight with demons or online with other people, I know Overwatch probably gets this based on the fact it’s the heavy favorite for Game of the Year. If only Doom had come out last year. Oh, well.

BEST ACTION/ADVENTURE GAME

  • Dishonored 2 (Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks)
  • Hitman (IO Interactive/Square Enix)
  • Hyper Light Drifter (Heart Machine)
  • Ratchet & Clank (Insomniac Games/Sony Interactive Entertainment)
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (Naughty Dog/Sony Interactive Entertainment)

Predicted Winner: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Personal Pick: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Huh, I wonder what episode of Hitman is nominated?

Stupid jab at Square Enix aside, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is my predicted pick and personal pick. But let me make this clear: Ratchet & Clank is very, VERY close to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in my book. I’m sure that’s not the case for a lot of the voters, but I was so blown away at how much care and detail was put into the remake. It felt like a new game to me, and that’s incredibly impressive in my book.

If Ratchet & Clank wasn’t a reboot/remake of the first game, it probably would have edged out Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End for me. Both games are great and I recommend them to anyone that has a PlayStation 4.
