Possible photo of the rumored “SteamBox” prototype

We recently told you about Valve saying they’d enter the console business if they felt they had to. Among the reports were specs of an internal prototype: a Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GPU. The device was said to rival the potential of the Apple TV set-top box as a gaming console.

Now (or rather, back in November), Valve employee Greg Coomer tweeted the above photo (click for full view) with this comment:

Built this tiny PC. i7 quad core, 8GB ram, Zotac Z-68 mobo w/ onnboard Nvidia mobile gfx. Runs Portal 2 FAST.

Sound familiar? Everything’s lining up, but it could just be a coincidence. It IS an older tweet, after all, and if Valve is indeed toying with the idea of selling hardware, there’s no evidence that Coomer is involved with the project.
