Bethesda also on board to support the Wii U

Like Valve and other major game makers before them, Bethesda has expressed interest in developing for the Wii U, citing the increased power as incentive to look into Nintendo’s next console. In an interview with MCV, Bethesda vice president Pete Hines explained Bethesda’s ongoing commitment to expand to new consoles, remarking that the Wii’s capacity was just inadequate:

“The Wii wasn’t even an option – we would have to make wholesale changes to the games we were making on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC to make them work on Wii.”

He goes on to admit that he’s unsure if the Wii U will be able to accommodate Bethesda titles, saying:

“I honestly know nothing about the tech specs of the new platforms and whether or not they are a good fit for what we are making with say Rage and Skyrim and Prey 2…If they are a good fit for the kind of games we are making then absolutely, we would look to put them out for those. But beyond that I can’t get into specifics.”

Given that the Wii U will be capable of running a single layer Blu-ray disc ala the Playstation 3, it’s safe to say Bethesda could squeeze something on there. The question is, what? Rage and Prey 2 don’t seem like the best fit, but maybe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

So far this Wii U “hardcore” developer line up is looking pretty darn good.  The big thing to see is how much these developers want to change the code base to work on the Wii U when they build it for PC/XBOX/PS3.
