Wii U optical discs confirmed to hold a minimum of 25GB

To say the new Wii will be visually superior to the old is the understatement of E3 2011. In an interview, Nintendo game designer Katsuya Eguchi has confirmed that the Wii U discs will hold at least 25GB of storage, putting the Wii U’s capabilities on par with that of the single layer Blu-ray format of PlayStation 3. The Wii U will also have internal flash memory, as per their E3 2011 press materials, but the rumored capacity — said to be 8GB — could not be confirmed.

Internal storage is a must now a days, good to hear they aren’t messing that up. Although I really liked the fact that the Wii used SD cards for storage. Also the Blu-Ray format is actually built so that it can expand in the future. Most movies are duel layer discs meaning they have 50BG of space (25GB per layer). And in the future the Blu-Ray players “could” be upgraded to support more layers. Whether that happens or when or if PS3 will support that is another question.

What a great point, I should have actually clarified the bit on the single layer, will edit and add.
