At the recent Nintendo World 2011 event, producer Hideki Konno and Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata took the stage to discuss Nintendogs + Cats, the 3DS sequel that adds cats to the DS original. Among the topics discussed was that of the titular Cats: of all the animals in the kingdom, what reasons were behind picking felines? You know, besides all the obvious ones? Says Konno:
“During development of 3DS Nintendogs, Shigeru Miyamoto got a cat.”
However, there seems to be more to it than that, as he said the case for cats emerged after discussions of adding…horses and dolphins. Oddly, these were considered for the European market, though no reason was really given why. Though if you ask me, given how awesome dolphins are, no “why” is needed.
