Reminder: Nintendo to reveal 3DS details September 29

On Wednesday September 29th, Nintendo of Japan will finally present the world with the secretive details surrounding their upcoming handheld, the Nintendo 3DS. All we’ve known about the 3D capable device’s release is the confirmed “by March 2011″ timeframe. Thankfully, in just four days we’ll know a heck of a lot more, at an event at the Makuhari venue within Tokyo, which recently housed the Tokyo Game Show.

We should learn the handheld’s technical specifications, and see the final build of the product. In the event that N.O.J. focuses on the price and release date for Japan only, you can expect Nintendo of America (and Europe) to give specific region based details shortly following the presentation. No matter what, we’ll bring you every ounce of information as soon as it’s given, so be sure to check back constantly!

Will the 3DS release in 2010? Will it launch at the rumored $249 price point? Can it teleport Shigeru Miyamoto into your living room? All will be revealed next week.

    Nice! I can't wait!

  • STEELFLEX

Do you mean that Nintendo of America will announce our price and release date shortly after the main presentation for Japan or will there be a whole separate press briefing on a different day? I would be sad if I had to wait even longer to get info for America

  • bananaoomarang

I'm thinking that there might be another press briefing on a different day, but I am certainly not an expert.

  • JasonLeavey

My belief is that Nintendo of America will indeed give the price and release date of the Nintendo 3DS on September 29th.

  • STEELFLEX

Well I sure hope they give some info on release date and price for others besides just Japan cause I would really like to know!!!!

When Nintendo revealed the launch details for the Wii in September of 2006, their Japanese press event (which gave a good price estimate to the rest of the world) was followed by similar press events in the other major markets within 24 hours. I believe Reggie made the North American announcement from NYC once business hours began on the East Coast.

Keep in mind that whatever is announced for Japan won't be exactly what's announced for the rest of the world later that day. Japan got a cheaper Wii price, sans Wii Sports. Maybe NOA and NOE have something planned for the 3DS as well.

  • STEELFLEX

That would be great if NOA and NOE had plans for us after the Japan briefing! But if they did have plans for that wouldnt they let us know just like Japan did for there briefing?

    • JasonLeavey

Yeah, they should “let us know”… but this is Nintendo! They're too secretive to tell us anything ahead of time ;) Japan makes the grand announcements and NOA follows suit.

      • STEELFLEX

yeah well hopefully they will just let us know on the 29th in Japan that would be best in my opinion haha

ok. so heres wat i think. i looked at the picture above and made a few guesses on wat this thing is gonna be like. first of all the graphics are amazing. more than a good excuse for 3d games (3d as in its not made with sprites) which will probaly kill platforming games. im not saying they wont make any. but not much. secondly. the 3d effect is only on the top screen. wich means if a company want to make a game with alot of 3d effects. it wont have much to do with the touch screen. so dont expect something like TLOZ phantom hourglass to be redon for 3d. mabe graphic. 3rd. theres a home button on the bottom of the system. on the dsi to go home you would just press the power button. but theres no menu. this has a button specificly for going home. wich will probly mean this thing has an actual menu pop up. it will probaly look like the nintendo wiis menu. im hopeing it will have a more flexibal one. if this thing plays music then mabe that will be a feature. kinda like the xbox. 4th. this is a sixty four game its showing. and its touch screen has a stupid instuction thing. im probly gonna be wrong with this one. but if this remake dosent have any touchscreen features then wy would any of the others? they might leave the touch screen for origonal 3ds games. or, since this thing is reverse compatable with ds games. then that might be the only reason its even there! kinda like the gamboy slot on the ds. it wasnt used at all (except for those small things like the guitar hero grip) but they got rid of it after the dsi. when they make a new model of the 3ds (like 2 days after the first is released) it might not even have a touch screen. 5th. this is probly something u dont care about. but the light next to the slider will probly get dimmer the lower the quality is. 6th(if ur still reading this) the 3d is gonna use more batery life. so if u get 8 hours of gameplay without it then you will get about 4 hours withit full blast. so most peaple will probly have it in between when there playing it on the go. and you can kick it full blast at home or on a short car ride. also, using the 3d effect to much could damage your screen. if you keep your dsi on brightscreen then it will start to loose color. same goes for the 3ds.7th. if you look VERY closley to the left of the system. u can see a little nub. wich is probly the volume. now, ive never looked at the side of this yet. so i have not a clue on how the volume is gonna be handled. it could be a slider like the ds light becouse theres a slider for the 3d. so wy not volume? plus theres only 1 nub. or it could be buttons. the slider on the older ds were both on the bottom of the system. but theres nothing there on this one.and the dsi was on the side. so it will brobaly be buttons… yes i know this is a long comment. but as u can see its like 2 in the morning and i have nothing else to do. soo…just one more thing to point out. the power light on every other handheld was on the front of the system. this one is on the bottom. wich is not a noticable spot. so when u press the menu button there will be a batery meter. and when ur batery is low it will show in icon on the screen that tells you its gonna die. if it dosent have that this thing could be annoying.oh and the microphone is close to the origonal spot it was at when duel screens were brand new. look closly and u can see it… havent heard much about that thing… another reason wy dual screen is only there for reverse play… ds used to stand for dual screen. but 3ds could stand for 3 dememtional screen. it dosent stand for 3 duel screen.

Great observations and theories. Don't forget that the above image is not fully representative of the actual Nintendo 3DS, just the prototype featured at E3 2010. The final build, to be shown Wednesday, may offer some slight changes.

Also to note, the “instructions” on the bottom screen of the Star Fox 64 3DS demo won't be part of the actual game. It was just there for demo purposes, though you're right in that its presence doesn't confirm or deny touch screen controls.

your right about the body style. this isnt a final design. and a slight change could make my guesses less relyable. and now that i think about it, i read an artical somewere that said the reason they didnt make the bottom screen 3d was becouse ur hand would interfere with the effect. wich might support the fact that it might still be used for new games. you just wont get a 3d effect if its used.
