Marching season is in full swing at high schools and colleges across the country. Odds are that you, your friends, your kids, or the friends/kids of someone you know is going through their own marching season right now. You’ll see various shows based on movie soundtracks, Broadway musicals, music and dance styles from various eras, even original compositions. But rarely have schools done marching shows based on video games, let alone done them well.
Enter Drum Corps International. The kids in DCI generally have more enthusiasm for what they do, better refined music and marching skills, and plenty of rehearsal time and resources. Toss in music by Nobuo Uematsu, and you’ve got a gamer’s dream marching show. The footage above was the 2005 field show for the Blue Stars crops, entitled Pixelation: The Music from Final Fantasy.
Who’s jealous? Better yet, how many of you have just decided to audition for a corps next year?
