Congratulations are in order for a prominent brand in the industry that didn’t even exist when Nintendo and Sega were battling it out in the early 90s. Sony is proud to announce the 15-year anniversary for their PlayStation brand of consoles.
The company’s PlayStation console (now known as PS One) released on September 9th, 1995 in North America, which launched in December of 1994 in Japan. Serving as Sony’s first console entry into the marketplace, you have to commend the company for helping to shift the industry’s focus towards disc based games, through hosting a sizable library of 8,000 software titles. In just 15 years, Sony has gone on to release the PS2, the most successful video game console of all time, and the current generation’s PS3 console. They’ve also released several models of their popular PSP handheld.
To celebrate, Sony has a special video currently airing in the Theater of PS Home. Head there now to check it out.
I spent much of my PlayStation days playing Tekken and the original Dance Dance Revolution, and to celebrate I may have to revisit those games tonight. How will you spend PlayStation’s anniversary?
