Call of Duty: Black Ops to introduce offline multiplayer

As a means of winning over would be fans who are wary of Call of Duty‘s aggressive multiplayer reputation, Treyarch is introducing a new offline multiplayer mode in the upcoming Black Ops.

Entitled Combat Mode, it is said to be a “complete standalone experience”, meant to acclimate new players to the maps and online match structure as well as serve as practice for the more advanced. A fitting move given that Black Ops is coming to the Wii: Nintendo fans are by now well familiar with their various efforts to integrate new fans while satiating the old. What say you Call of Duty fiends? Welcome addition, or unnecessary hand holding?

    To be completely honest I was not going to get this game. Although I liked modern warfare and the demo for 2 was awesome, I'm not a big fan of playing online with strangers. That sucks because that's half the game. But with this new offline multiplayer, I am now planing to get it. I usually play Halo 3 or Gears 2 for my mulitplayer & only with friends. The one thing that frustrates me about Halo is that I can't play the multiplayer boards with computer controlled players to improve my skills, Gears 2 lets me do that. I wish more game companies would do that for us, shall we say, “less than social” gamers. Just because I don't like playing against strangers doesn't mean I should only get half a game, especially if I'm paying full price for it.

      Is it going to have like friend agaist friend mulitplayer like in modern warfare 2 where you can make class agaist friend that come to your house

Not being able to practice before being thrown to the wolves has affected my decisions when buying games, too. Treyarch has won me over in so many ways with Black Ops.

    I am very disappointed with the off line play. Nothing like MW2. I am in the process of moving so I have no internet and this is the only real way to play this game to the fullest. If you buy this game for off line battles with friends then DONT buy this one. You have a 10 minute time frame only and can not change it either. You can not control the match options like before. They give you all weapons, perks etc insteaf of earning them like online play. You can not build profiles, earn creds or anything like MW2. It is based strictly for on line play. I will enjoy more when I go back on line. Until then this game will rest in its case and MW2 will contine to spin.

    yeah i agree i think they did a better job on MWF2. this game sucks unless u hav xbox live. which a lot of people dont including me. this game was a real dissapointment. if ur not getting xbox live dont waste your time or money with this game

    I can not believe that this black ops sucks so bad after the great modern warfare. I would rather play Wolrd at War than Black ops. They really dropped the ball and made a crap load of money promoting and fooling us!!!

    I agree, Xbox has a lot to be desired against Play Station with PS 3 FREE online play!!!

    This game is a huge disappointment without the MW multiplayer offline option. It is the only reason why I bought this game and it is not offered. This is a piece of crap don't waste your money if you are a MW 2 fan.

    I don't like going online either, it is for those who have nothing else to do but play video games. The offline version of play was the most fun and intense game experience I have ever had and this game doesn't even offer it.

    I don't post against a product often, but this IS ALL HYPE for MW fans. Don't buy it unless you are one of those who plays on line all the time…

    I would like to take this back and exchange it if that was even possible…

      i agree all these fags saying its a waste of time if you dont play online…i disagree i think its a waste paying to play all you little fags that say that are the ones that have their whole life consist of playing video games how bout you get a job or a better hobby to do one that takes talent and isnt a waste of life…dont get me wrong i like to play it every now and then but sitting at my house all day talking shit to people online i dont know your fucking stupid make some real friends instead
