If you followed our coverage of Apple’s Music Event held earlier today, you heard about the latest batch of exciting new iPod devices and iOS 4.1 improvements. One of which, is the announcement of Game Center, a new App that will connect players to others around the globe, making online play a breeze. To show off the new gaming feature, Steve Jobs gave the stage to Epic Games President Mike Capps to display their newest game, codenamed Project Sword.
The title uses the Unreal Engine 3, as players navigate through a beautifully created medieval castle town. You’ll attack enemies using swiping gestures on the touch screen. Through Game Center, players can jump in and join your battle at anytime.
“This is a testament to the sheer power of iOS devices as up until now, Unreal Engine 3 has typically been used to create high-end gaming experiences on game consoles and computers,” said Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps. “And we’re not just keeping it to ourselves. We’re putting Unreal Engine 3 technology into the hands of game developers all over the world, and we can’t wait to see the apps they make next.”
To show off what is capable with the Unreal Engine 3, Epic is releasing a free App titled Epic Citadel. It’s accessible on iTunes at the link below.
