Microsoft raising Xbox LIVE subscription costs

Bad news for Xbox 360 owners who live for their online gaming. Microsoft has announced this morning plans to raise the subscription costs for all of their Xbox LIVE subscriptions.

The annual subscription price will change from $49.99 to now $59.99. The three month subscription will go from $19.99 to $24.99, and the one month will go from $7.99 to $9.99.

In Europe, the increase will go to 5.99GPB per month, $9.99 CAD a month in Canada, and in Mexico a year is priced at 599 Pesos.

The price changes go into effect on November 1st. You know what that means… stock up on subscription cards now!

ASSHOLES! Sorry, that's all I got. Seriously though. Assholes.

They don't even have any way to justify the raise. Everything they have added could be/is accessed through Windows (any computer) or a TV.

I think that this is a “dick move” as well, but there is a solution. If they had 3 different memberships it could soften this. For example: Have Silver do what its doing now for free, have Gold be for people who just want to play games with others for $49.99, then have a “Platinum” version that does all the facebook & twitter crap for this new price. But of course they won't do that because nobody would pay for the higher priced version. So all the 360 owners get boned & the PS3 owners get to laugh at us, again :(

Ugh, and what's worse about that is, Facebook and Twitter on XBOX 360? Who the eff cares? It's tedious to use those on XBOX. It's tedious pretty much anywhere that isn't your smart phone or computer! I guess my frustration comes from all the new ways these companies find to milk money out of us, and how it just…never…ends. Games are already costing 100+ bucks when all is said and done (due to DLC). Console subscriptions was already pushing it for me, but at least the XBOX Live membership was always worth it. PSN + is a huge disappointment so far, and while an additional ten dollars a year for Live doesn't seem like much in the scheme of things, it's just one more mounting cost to irk my delicate gamer sensibilities. I ONLY SEEM MADE OF MONEY MICROSOFT. lol.

I totally agree. I have never used any of those things with my xbox, why should I pay more for something I don't even use. But on the other hand I do the same thing for my dish. I pay for hundreds of channels I don't even watch, but I still have to pay for them to get the channels I do watch. Eventually everyone will put up with it & the complaints will be pushed under the rug. Reminds me of when video games jumped from $49.99 to $59.99.

If someone gives Microsoft an idea that might mean less profits for them, it will NEVER happen, so a third Live membership level will never happen.

The tiered membership could work out: have one tier for those who stream movies only, one for those who game online/may stream flicks, and one that does the social networking in addition to the others.
