Remember those two 3D The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening fan games from a while back? It looks like neither of them managed to make it to the “Cease and Desist letter” phase.
MithosKuu’s Link’s Awakening 3D project, which would have been a straight remake of Link’s Awakening with 3D models, has been cancelled due to incompetence. Ok, that’s definitely a harsh way to put it, but Mr. Kuu simply lacks the programming skills required to finish this kind of game on his own and has decided he would rather work on other projects instead. He has opted to release the assets and soundtrack for download via the project’s blog.
Meanwhile, Jerrel Dulay, of the more ambitious Ballad of the Wind Fish re-imagining, has emerged after six months of hiding to tell the world that he’s just too busy with real life and other things to continue on. Dulay is slightly less clear about his intentions for the work he has completed, stating that he is considering releasing the source code to the public.
It’s always a little sad to see projects like these abandoned, but never really surprising.
