Maryland creates “Civilization V Day” for Sid Meier’s new release

Well if this isn’t supportive, I don’t know what is. The great state of Maryland, home of crabcakes, The Wire, Good Charlotte, and yours truly, is declaring September 21, 2010 as “Sid Meier’s Civilization V Day.” Why you ask? Because that’s the release date of Meier’s upcoming Civilization V video game of course!

Meier has created quite an impressive lineup of strategy titles at Firaxis Games, a leading video game company which he co-founded, based out of Hunt Valley, Maryland. Maryland Governor Martin O’ Malley was kind enough to sign off on the special honorary day, written on that fancy proclamation you see above.

I haven’t been this proud of my home state since Baltimore’s former mayor stole gift cards from the needy, no…um, I mean since the beltway sniper, I mean…murder rate, I mean…syphilis epidemic,… um, no, no. Let’s just mark today as the first time I’ve been proud of Maryland since the Raven’s won the Superbowl ten years ago. Yeah, that works.
