Friday Night Concerts: Susan Calloway, “Melodies of Life”

When I posted earlier this week about the cancellation of the “Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY” concert in Chicago this August, I was devastated. I attended the Distant Worlds concert here in Chicago this past December, and those who came with me know I was excited in anticipation of the concert, but felt robbed afterward as I complained about the disappointing performance level of the orchestra and choir. The now-canceled concert in August would not only have featured a much better ensemble, it would have featured one of the best in the world: the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Still, those same people who accompanied me back in December will recall that I consistently praised the one shining star from that night: vocalist Susan Calloway. Her performance of Final Fantasy IX‘s “Melodies of Life” from that very same concert is posted above for all of you to view and enjoy. If you enjoyed her performance, you can hear more of her on the new Distant Worlds II: more music from FINAL FANTASY album, available digitally from the official site, and on physical CD from Amazon. Though still featuring the same choir, the new album features the talented Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra behind Susan’s beautiful performances.
