You’re probably having a hard time knowing which music game is which these days, as the market is being saturated by a bunch of rhythm titles, some from the same publisher. Activision alone released Band Hero, DJ Hero, and Guitar Hero titles all in the same year. Now, it seems their focus is back with the game that started it all.
In the sixth edition of the Guitar Hero franchise, subtitled Warriors of Rock, Activision plans on releasing a stellar music title that focuses less on gimmicks and more on music. The Wii version is again developed by Vicarious Visions, while the PS3, Xbox 360 versions will be developed by Neversoft. “We’re only making this game this year,” said Neversoft’s Brian Bright. “So it’s been really good for us to focus on this title and really put our all into it.” The Wii version is said to include three Roadie mini-games, that are playable using a DS handheld.
The game is using Guitar Hero 5 as its backbone, including a lot of the same look and features of the title, including Party Play. You’ll also see a lot more rock ‘n’ roll, presumably leaving the more pop oriented tracks to future Band Hero titles. That sort of feel will also be noticeable in the game’s visuals, sporting a 70s and 80s rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic. Likely, levels will look more like a Ratt album cover than a No Doubt concert. And as mentioned, Gene Simmons will rock out as the front man of the new Quest mode.
We’ll let you know more about the game when we hear it.
