If Nintendo can stay the course, and there’s little doubt they can’t, their DS handheld will become the best selling console of all time by the end of the year. According to NPD analysis Anita Frazier, by “October or November” the DS will have surpassed the current record holder, Sony’s PlayStation 2.
Already selling close to 130 million units, the DS is likely going into a territory few consoles will ever compete with. Of course to its advantage over the PS2, the DS has seen many different models with slight improvements. With the differences between the DS Phat to the DSi, it’s almost like two different handhelds. I’m sure many people upgraded from one to the other, including myself, boosting the overall console sales.
Still, a DS is a DS. Congratulations to the Nintendo DS. That’s quite an accomplishment!
