Nintendo announces “Wii Party” for Wii

Nintendo has released a line of Wii mini-game titles, all of which star your own Mii characters doing activities set around a different theme. You had Wii Sports which featured 5 sports, Wii Play which featured mini-games. There was Wii Fit (and Wii Fit Plus) which turned your obese Mii into Mini-Mii, Wii Music which make music titles accessible and Wii Sports Resort, adding more sports to the fun of the original title.

Now, Nintendo has announced the next title in the series, Wii Party. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed the game as part of Nintendo’s impressive line up of already announced titles coming this fiscal year. The game is a natural evolution for Wii, as Iwata noted that over 160 million Miis have been created since the Wii shipped. While not much specifically is known about what types of mini-games the title will offer, Wii Party is being developed so that every Wii owner will find something of interest.

Hopefully we can get some online multiplayer too. Otherwise, the party might be pretty lonely.

Am I the only one sad that Mario Party is now gone?

Very sad. It was initially stated that Miyamoto thought about using Mario & friends for Wii Sports. Nintendo ultimately created the Miis to appeal to more people. I guess they went that route again. I am still hoping for a return to Mario Party at some point.
