Warner Bros. pursuing rights to a Bleach movie in 2012

Fans of the Bleach games, manga, and anime may have another feature film in the future to look forward to. Warner Bros. has confirmed that they are in talks to obtain the rights for a Bleach movie in 2012, with Peter Segal in the producer’s role. Joining him will be his usual partner-in-crime, Michael Ewing.

“The story centers on a 15-year-old boy who has the ability to see ghosts and meets a female Soul Reaper, a member of an order that escorts the souls of the dead. A fight with an evil spirit causes the Reaper to transfer all her power to the boy, leaving her stranded in the human world and the boy taking over her job as a fighter of evil.”

You may know Segal’s work from Anger Management, The Longest Yard, and the Get Smart films. I recently saw one of his other movies – 50 First Dates (which apparently gets you a lot of comments on Facebook and Twitter). As such, he may seem a curious choice for a producer on a Bleach movie, but he’s reportedly trying to broaden his portfolio through the darker, action-oriented content a Bleach movie would require.

I have a feeling this will fail really bad. American's doing Japanese anime is never a good idea.

why!!! why people insist in killing anime! doing films like this… aahhh!!!

I would be delighted and overjoyed if someone with a background in black magic to put a grisly curse promising agonizing death on anyone from corporate Hollywood who tries to adapt Bleach into a live action movie. I sincerely believe if a Bleach movie had to be done, it is best done in native Japan by maybe someone like Takashi Miike, Ryuhei Kitamura, or Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Stop the white-washing hollywood. I weep for Tite Kubo.

I don't care if they mess up the plot, as long as the characters look alike! I think I would die if Zaraki has smooth hair for example, or a Kurotsuchi without scary make-up/hat/etc.!!!
