Fans of the Bleach games, manga, and anime may have another feature film in the future to look forward to. Warner Bros. has confirmed that they are in talks to obtain the rights for a Bleach movie in 2012, with Peter Segal in the producer’s role. Joining him will be his usual partner-in-crime, Michael Ewing.
“The story centers on a 15-year-old boy who has the ability to see ghosts and meets a female Soul Reaper, a member of an order that escorts the souls of the dead. A fight with an evil spirit causes the Reaper to transfer all her power to the boy, leaving her stranded in the human world and the boy taking over her job as a fighter of evil.”
You may know Segal’s work from Anger Management, The Longest Yard, and the Get Smart films. I recently saw one of his other movies – 50 First Dates (which apparently gets you a lot of comments on Facebook and Twitter). As such, he may seem a curious choice for a producer on a Bleach movie, but he’s reportedly trying to broaden his portfolio through the darker, action-oriented content a Bleach movie would require.
