Midway’s arcade racing classic Hydro Thunder is set to get a brand new sequel from developer Vector Unit. The game, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, will launch on XBLA this summer.
In case you never visited an arcade in the late 90s, Hydro Thunder is a racer that takes place in speedboats on visually stunning obstacle ridden courses. The new title will include 8 brand new tracks, set in a theme park environment.The game will feature both local split screen multiplayer and 8 player online multiplayer modes.
“We’re huge fans of the original Hydro Thunder,” said Matt Small, Creative Director at Vector Unit. ”There’s so much there that already works; the exhilarating boost speeds, the crazy shortcuts, the gigantic jumps and drop-offs. We knew we wanted to keep all of that, even add more of it. At the same time, we had to bring something new to the table, something more than just recreating the original game with high-res graphics.”
