New Zelda Wii may support Vitality Sensor

Shigeru Miyamoto recently spoke about the importance of implementing a new device for use with the right software. For example, he discussed the decision to incorporate Wii MotionPlus for use with the latest Zelda title. However, Miyamoto also spoke about maybe incorporating Nintendo’s latest sensor peripheral.

Whenever we are going to use any new device it is possible to expand the appeal to those who are new to the videogaming world. At the same time, however, it is also fun to think of ways in which we might apply that new technology to existing forms of gameplay – just like the way we are working on the new Legend Of Zelda together with Wii Motion Plus. As you become more scared, the enemies become even tougher. So maybe you might like to ask me to incorporate the Vitality Sensor into Zelda so that as you become more scared, the enemies become even tougher.

Wow. Can you imagine facing boss battles where difficulty is based on your own fears? Aside from having to play with a sensor strapped on my finger, I think it sounds like a great idea. Hopefully this is more of a reality than just an idea.

Hmm…..I see the reasoning behind this, but I don't think it goes very well with LoZ. The enemies are not frightening, at least, not to me. Basically the only time I ever really tense up at all in any game is when I'm about to die. If I'm not about to die, I'm too concentrated on playing to even think anything besides “Ooh, look at that.” or “Wow, that's pretty cool.”

Now, if the game is, say, Resident Evil, or some other game which reeks of “scary,” I would most likely have a slightly fluctuating heart rate for the Vitality Sensor to actually be useful. But in the case of LoZ, I don't think it would be of much use. Perhaps it could be made optional? Whether it's optional or not, the connector for it would have to have a pass-through for the nunchuk to also be plugged in, I would think.
