Sony’s PS3 is the heaviest console…ever!

PS3 owners could never imagine contesting the recent findings by Weekly Famitsu that Sony’s HD console is the heaviest console, by weight. It’s like a sack of bricks wrapped in sleek black plastic coating!

Coming in at 11 pounds, the original PS3 console is 2.4lbs larger than the 8.6 lbs original Xbox console.  The new PS3 Slim consoles however debuted at just 7.05, making it a tad lighter than the Xbox 360 at 7.9 lbs. In comparison, Nintendo’s little white Wii console averages a weight of 2.7 pounds.

I guess bigger isn’t always better, at least according to lifetime hardware sales figures.

Since the PS3 contains the power supply internally, and the Xbox 360 uses an external power brick, what is the weight of a PS3 (with internal power supply) and the 360 with the power supply included. We should compare apples to apples here. I think the brick and 360 together are about 9.5 lbs.

Oh, and make sure it is a 360 with a hard drive, not the stripped down Arcade version. Should be include the Wifi adaptor since that is also built into the PS3 and is not included with a 360? I could go on…
