Nic Watt: DS successor should have GPS and 3G technology

You know, five years ago we might have brushed this off as a “snowball’s chance” or a “that‘ll be the day” type of wishful thinking. Nintendo was and still is a company that tends to shy away from luxury technologies until they’re proven – optical discs, high-definition, you get the picture. Still, given the company’s complete 180 from claiming that Internet penetration isn’t high enough to practically requiring that Nintendo owners connect using Wi-Fi instead of wired solutions, Nic Watt may have picked a feasible request.

The Creative Director behind Nnooo Games’ Pop Plus Solo hopes the true successor to the Nintendo DS will allow players to “play online wherever [they] are,” using 3G technology. Developers “would also be able to add location-based features to games” using GPS technology.

Imagine the augmented reality possibilities. Or how about region-exclusive Pokemon? All still nothing but hopeful speculation, but I hear the next DS is going to be awesome.
