Welcome To The Tanooki 3.0!

So true story: that other design we’ve been using for the past five months or so? It was never meant to be used. It’s even in my files as “2.1.” Nevertheless, fate decided to keep things interesting around here and create a situation where we decided to use it. To be fair, it was good for us to try out some new design ideas. That said, we’re never going to speak of the previous site design ever again.

Oh blog format, how we’ve missed you. And look! You’ve brought a new friend! Is that a tanuki? It’s a baby tanuki? Aww… What’s its name? It doesn’t have one yet? Oh, I see. You want the readers to suggest names for each of our new little friends as we add them into our site design. There’s nothing like baby raccoons bears puppies-with-raccoon-like-fur scattered all around our fantastic little blog!

Alright, everyone. We’ve gotta pick a name! Leave a comment if you’ve got a suggestion, or just let us know what you think of new design!

To be brutally honest, I'd grown quite fond of “2.1″ as you so call it. Even so much so that I preferred it to the original blog format. The current format seems a bit rushed, amateur, and not polished at all.
The across-the-board background, combined with minimal line Microsoft Word text-box borders and center-aligned text in the sidebars is an eyesore. And choosing to stick with Google Adsense rather than advertising through affiliates further disjoints the aesthetic value. I hope this isn't permanent. Like I said, brutally honest. I'm a longtime reader, and the fact is that I hate to see such sub-par production value deteriorate the content.

Thanks for your input, rvlockard! Since 2.1 did feature a different layout, obviously we were thinking heavily about using that kind of format, and some serious thought went into whether or not we should stick with that format for this new update. I'm curious as to what aspects of the previous design you specifically liked and might like to see make a comeback. There are several features and design aspects that have yet to be incorporated into this design.

Specifically, I liked the color scheme and the sort of 'preview window' that rotated through your headline stories and I think it could've withstood a smaller footprint onscreen. Overall, I liked the compartmentalized design 2.1 featured. I'm glad changes are coming, so please consider the following; the static cloudy background with minimal interruption between posts, sidbars, headlines and ads is in need of a serious overhaul. Google Adsense surely can't be providing you with enough revenue to warrant continued usage. I'd go with affiliate-specific adverts. There's just a lot of disharmony on the sidebar right now.
I will say, I have noticed an uptick in content being published as of late, which is always appreciated. I don't know if that has been caused by the change back to a more blog-friendly format, but it's nice.

Bravo. This latest iteration is a vast improvement.
