Want to unlock all the Pokewalker routes? Be prepared to walk 1,000 miles!

Want to be the Pokemon Master? You better invest in some walking shoes. Players of the newest Pokémon game/s HeartGold/SoulSilver will have to walk 1,000 miles in order to unlock all the routes on their Pokéwalker.  (Just as a comparison, the average sedentary adult will walkbetween 1,000 and 3,000 steps per day, or .5 miles to 1.5 miles. It would anywhere from several months to over a year, at those rates!)

Now that’s how you motivate the video game generation. Forget Wii Fit Plus. Konami’s Walk It Out can take a hike. I want my exercise time to mean something. And by “mean something”, I mean “give me something other than leg cramps and severe boredom”. Pokéwalker routes beat both of those any day.

There are sports drinks on the market that can replenish electrolytes that may be lost during workouts, but do not overuse these as too much of these elements can be harmful.  Believe it or not but drinking pickle juice is equivalent to those expensive sports drinks for electrolyte replacement. To prevent leg cramps you need to stay hydrated. This means drinking plenty of fluids before, during and even after exercise.

Ha, nice. Did you notice my song reference in the excerpt? I was proud of it.

Do people actually walk with it though? I've been trying to find the best way with the least work, tapping my foot seems to do an OK job. If only I owned a fan =(
