Sexual orientation now allowed in your Xbox 360 Gamertag

In agreeance with GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Microsoft has decide to allow gamers to declare their sexual orientation within their gamer profiles and Gamertags. The terms “Lesbian,” “Gay,” “Bi,” “Transgender,” or “Straight” will be allowed to be used.

According to the new policy, “other terms regarding relationship orientation are not allowed. In addition you may not use these terms or any other terms regarding relationship orientation to insult, harass, or any other pejorative use against other users.”

These changes came after Microsoft previously removed the option to use sexual orientation classifiers due to what they considered an increase in gamer harassment. The new policy now jointly reflects both the goal’s of Microsoft and GLAAD, as well as the LGBT Xbox community.
