Dunaway: Don’t expect Mario or Zelda on Facebook

With the success of popular Facebook games like Farmville and Mafia Wars, it’s no wonder that industry shakers like EA and Sid Meier are trying to hope on the band wagon. Madden Football and Civilization are just two popular series known to have a Facebook version in the works, and given the 38 million people using their Facebook accounts to play games, the trend will probably only take off from here.

Just don’t expect to see Nintendo doing it! When asked by Venturebeat if she saw a future in having Mario on Facebook, Nintendo of America’s vice president of sales & marketing Cammie Dunaway said:

I don’t know. I think we will continue to save Mario for our own platforms. It’s one of the secret weapons we have. Mario and Zelda are intellectual property that is important to us and will only be seen on Nintendo platforms.”

She does have a point. And besides, do we really need another Facebook game polluting the feed pages? A friend of mine just updated with a plea for help collecting jars for her Cafe World spice rack. Stop the insanity!
