Heavy Rain may use PS3 motion controller

If you’re one of the many who played the demo of Heavy Rain, recently released on the PlayStation Network, you may have felt that the game might have benefited from motion controls. With a release date of next week, it’s doubtful that the game will launch with motion controls using the unreleased PS3 Arc Motion Controller, being that it’s, well,…unreleased.

David Cage, founder of Quantic Dream commented on using motion controls in Heavy Rain, to website Dagbladet. “[They are] something we initially considered for Heavy Rain,” Cage said. “The very first version of the game design was based on motion control, but it was not feasible at the time. But all the controls of the final version of Heavy Rain is still based on motion.”

Cage then teased that there’s still hope for the motion control implementation after the release of the controller. “I have a lot of interest in Sony’s motion device and there is a good chance that we announce something about it in the coming weeks.” Looks like we’ll have to wait for an official announcement, but you can bet motion controls are in Quantic Dream’s future. For those that have played the demo, what do you think about using, versus not using motion controls for the game?

I felt using the SIXAXIS controller worked fine, but there were many times when it just wasn’t as natural to control your character’s actions. Based on the gameplay and immersive story, the title deserves getting the motion treatment, at least as an optional control method. Otherwise, it would be like being told you could only use the Classic Controller instead of the Wii Remote for WarioWare: Smooth Moves; sheer and utter insanity!
