If you fired up your Wii recently with the expectation of playing one of their five demos (I downloaded Pokemon Rumble but never got around to trying it. Nuts.) then you are SOL. As of January 31st, all demos from the Wii have been scrapped! When asked, a Nintendo rep confirmed to Joystiq:
“From the start, the demo program was always planned to be available for a limited time on a trial basis.”
Apparently, the “limited time basis” was mentioned in Japan but never revealed here. In reference to the question of whether demos will ever be available again, the rep continued,
“We’re looking at our results and deciding our next steps.”
It’ll be interesting to see how the demos affected sales and if it’s worth it to Nintendo to bring them back.
