Petition calls for SEGA to include retro Sonic in Sonic 4

Sure, Sonic fans should be thrilled that SEGA is returning the hedgehog to his roots, with the downloadable release of Sonic 4, an episodic adventure. However, a new petition has surfaced that proves that some video game fans can never be pleased. A cry to “Bring the Classic Sonic to Sonic The Hedgehog 4″ has picked up steam, with over 430 signatures in 4 days.

The petitions states that the newer Sonic character has changed “drastically” from his original chubby, black-eyed self into a leaner, longer quilled, green-eyed creature. The petition also wants to make sure SEGA knows they aren’t asking them to “remove the modern Sonic design from [the game].” Instead, they want both options available.

Sounds like a pretty fair request. But is it possible that was SEGA’s plan all along? After days of teasing SEGA Blog readers, the company revealed that Sonic was the only playable character in the game. However, two spots are reserved under the featured characters on the Sonic 4 website. Could it be the original hedgehog design, or just a spot reserved for the evil Eggman.

If you agree that you’d like both Sonic versions in the game, take a look at the survey here.

Eggman? I hope not. As far as I'm concerned he's been Dr.Robotnik the entire time. ;) As long as the game is good I'm down, but that seems to be quite hard to achieve in a game with Sonic in the title. What a shame. A character model isn't going to make a potentially bad game a good one.
