While you may have thought that the idea of releasing full titles via the PlayStation Network was indeed the future of gaming, Sony apparently doesn’t agree with you. Despite previous release efforts, PlayStation senior VP Peter Dille spoke with IGN about the future of digital distribution. When asked if he thought future full length titles would release on the service, Dille remarked “no, I don’t think so, at least not any time soon.”
Since PS3 titles are shipped on Blu-ray discs, the game size can often teeter around the 50GB mark, the size of the discs. Dille commented that “today to download 50 gigs of data before you play a game, you could probably go buy a car, bring it home, put your family into it, drive to the store buy and bring the game home by the time [it's completed].”
Very true words. Luckily, PS One and PS2 titles are much smaller in size, so you can continue to expect titles from those consoles to be re-released on the PSN.
