A new Nintendo hardware home console is coming. Also, a new Nintendo handheld console is coming. The only problem is, we have no idea when. Until an official statement, teaser trailer or press conference, we’ll just have to become giddy over every shred of news that comes our way.
Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata recently made comments about the next consoles from Nintendo, which were later refuted by representatives from the company. Iwata thereafter clarified his comments, confirming again that the company has no plans for a Wii HD. “If asked if making the Wii compatible with high definition, just making it compatible with high resolution, will get players throughout the world to buy it, I would of course say, ‘Do you think it would sell with just that? Let’s put something new in it.’”
That something else of course is a secret. “If there were no rival makers in the world, I’d could give examples of the things that we are considering. However, for competitive reasons, I cannot give specifics today on the what or when of the things we’re considering.”
Again while confirming a new handheld is undoubtedly in the works, Iwata also confirms the necessary upgrades the portable console would need. When asked if high resolution graphics and a motion sensor were going to be included, Iwata responded “those are naturally considered requirements, however, do you believe it will sell with just this?”
A tease, and yet I feel satisfied. Here’s hoping for greatness!
