During a special presentation event today, Steve Jobs showed off the much anticipated tablet device, called the iPad. The iPad look similar to a large iPod touch, with a more square look to it.
With a 9.7 inch display, the iPad weighs less than 2 pounds and is a half inch thick. Apps such as The New York Times and Amazon are made specifically for the iPad in mind. The tablet also features the Apple iBook Store, where you’ll be able to read a huge selection of titles on the device.
Most iPhone/ iPod apps are compatible with the iPad, unmodified. EA has also announced their support with the iPad. The device will retail for $499 at the 16GB model, and will increase $100 for 32GB and additional $200 for 64GB. Additionally 3G is available through ATT at no contract, for 14.99 for 250MB and $29.99 for unlimited web access. Adding 3G will cost $130 to the model price. Wi-Fi is built into each unit.
To charge the device, you can plug it into your laptop or use the optional keyboard stand that allows you to type on a keyboard while it’s charging. Another accessory is a protective case that folds back and can act as a slightly inclined stand.
