Despite pleas from the gods of quality titles, Nintendo’s blacksheep of software has become the United States’ biggest selling non-PC video game release of all time. Because Wii Play is bundled with a Wii Remote, many gamers take issue with the idea that the game should even be a contender for breaking software records. The collection of fairly mediocre mini games bundled with the controller has served as a perfect formula for bringing the title into the homes of nearly every Wii owner.
Sales for the game have kept the title in the NPD’s top 10 list since the game’s 2007 release. Among the list of biggest selling non-PC video games in the US are Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock at number 2 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at number 3.
