Great news for game developers and movie studios alike. According to a recent report from Japanese news source Nikkei, Sony has figured out a way to increase Blu-ray disc storage space from 25 GB to 33.4 GB per disc layer. The increase storage size comes from changing the way the content is read, which likely can be adjusted through a firmware update for Blu-ray players such as the PS3.
Although trumping the space of a standard DVD, some game developers have complained that even a standard Blu-ray disc isn’t capable of holding all the content they’d like. But with the new fix, complaints may be a thing of the past. Why, just imagine the amount of content on a dual layered Blu-ray disc!
The increase will allow movie studios and game developers to load even more content on to discs, saving money for both the studios and consumers. I love technology.
