SEGA “probably not” making any more hardcore games for Wii
Sigh. After the disaster that was The Conduit, who could blame them? In a recent discussion during a 4 Guys 1UP podcast, Sega of America studio director Constantine Hantzopoulos pondered the success (meaning, lack thereof) of titles MadWorld, House Of The Dead: Overkill, and The Conduit, prompting him to say:
“That begets the question, you know, are we gonna do more mature titles for the Wii and it’s like … probably not.”
This comes as a slight surprise, as back in August, Sega’s Mike Hayes told Wired that despite the less than impressive sales of MadWorld and The Conduit (the latter of which he defended as a success, not a failure), they would still be making “core” games for the Wii. He even pointed out that House Of The Dead: Overkill did well in Europe and said that the failure of one game (the aforementioned MadWorld) wasn’t reason enough to stop making Wii games altogether. Huh. I wonder what changed.
Between this, and the failure of mature 3rd party titles on the Wii in general (even EA can’t do it), looks like there’s not much of a future in hardcore on the Wii.
