“Gem” new name for PS3 motion controller?

I think debuting a product without a name is one of the biggest mistakes you can make.  Even a codename provides something for the public to “ooo” and “ahh” after.  And 6 months after its debut at E3, Sony still hasn’t given a name to their motion controller.  Or have they?

EA’s John Riccitiello spoke at the UBS 37th Annual Global Media Conference and gave an interesting quote. “In the coming year, both Sony and Microsoft have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace.”

Gem, you say? Sounds a bit girly. Like it’ll come bedazzled in pink diamonds. And the controller does have a microphone resemblance, similar to the one used by 80s cartoon pop singer Jem. What are your thoughts on the potential name?

UPDATE:  Luckily, Gem was just a prototype name for the device, as confirmed by a Sony rep.
