Nintendo looking into Nokia’s alleged copyright infringement
One of the worst kept secrets with many handheld devices these days is that an alarming number of people download emulators to play illegal versions of classic games. For the most part, this kind of activity has remained under the radar, feeding off the work of rogue developers and spreading by word of mouth. Every now and then, someone slips up… big time.
Enter Nokia’s N900. Obviously, Nokia hasn’t had the best of luck in regards to portable gaming, but a recent video of the device from Nokia themselves has promoted the use of emulator apps for the N900. The interesting part, however, was that the video seemed to directly show existing emulators for systems like the NES, SNES, Game Boy, and more. You can bet the folks at Nintendo were POed as soon as they saw the video of the N900 running versions of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World.
“We take rigorous steps to protect our IP and our legal team will examine this to determine if any infringement has taken place,” said Nintendo UK’s Robert Saunders. Uh Oh…
