Sony considering adding paid subscription service for PSN
According to a recent Sony presentation, the company is investigating adding a “new revenue stream from subscription” for the PSN. Likely, this would mean charging for some of the online features for PS3 titles. However, there’s a few reasons not to get too worried just yet.
The idea itself is just part of Sony’s presentation of ideas and not official announcements. Additionally, these subscriptions are likely not for traditional online gaming that you’ve become accustom to, but rather specific premium features or items. It was also clear that this subscription model would be offered, in addition to the free model currently available. It’s unlikely that Sony would go the route of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 which, which requires a subscription for all online play for their Xbox LIVE service.
Would you be willing to pony up if it brought access to premium features for online play?
